I still have more to go through but I wanted to get these up for now. It was a great trip, lots of fun meeting and herping with other CRIS members in an awesome location. The conditions were not always ideal but we made the best of it and saw some incredible herps. Right after despeleta and I arrived and picked up our rental car we went road cruising west of Tucson. We were just winging it and looking for decent roads when I noticed a right turn that looked promising enough to turn it around and try it. Turns out it didn't really go very far but that didn't matter since we found this Arizona Glossy on the raod about 100 yards in. Then, while we were photographing this one, I shined my light up the road about 50 feet and noticed that another snake had arrived on the road. I ran over to find this atrox soaking in some road heat. We didn't find anything else that night except lots and lots of Border Patrol flying back and forth on the roads at 80mph plus. Friday morning Devlin and I headed out to a spot I had selected because it was in the range and habitat for some very desirable species such as Green Rat and Vine Snake. We picked out a nice area of the canyon that had a perennial stream in the bottom and rock outcrops on the right side and decided to set up shop and herp it for a few hours. Shortly after we arrived, Devlin flipped this little Black-tailed Rattlesnake on our way up to the rocky cliffs. After we finished photographing this little beauty, we took it back up to release it and flip some more. After we sent it off, we jumped this MASSIVE Sonoran Whipsnake which Dev saw head under a large, flat rock. He said, "snake... snake... BIG snake" and told me to flip the rock because he was having back issues. When I flipped it I couldn't believe my eyes. This thing was HUGE, over 6 feet without a doubt. The book says they only reach 70 inches... they are wrong. (more pics of this to come) On the way down the cliff to photograph this beast, we jumped a second, smaller Whipsnake which I had to run down at a full sprint on the side of a loose rocky canyon. I finally got to it and made a dive, getting a hand on it about 2/3 of the way down. Of course, it swung around and tried to bite my face but only got into my hand. After releasing them both, Chad, Mike, Ricky and Amy showed up. We all started flipping again and Devlin (Mr. Molossus) found a second, adult Black-tailed Rattlesnake. This is one of the most gorgeous crotes I have ever seen. It was also the mellowest crote I have encountered. We road cruised on the way out of the canyon that afternoon. Devlin and I didn't find anything but Chad, Ricky, and Amy had better luck. I have some pictures of their two snakes from the road but I will have to hold them back so I don't steal their thunder. Saturday was a slow day herp-wise. Many months ago, I picked out a spot for mountain crotes and pyromelana and Saturday was our day to go there. Unfortunately, the road to the spot was closed so we couldn't get up there. OUCH. That really sucked. So, we tried to improvise and find a couple spots but they didn't really pay off. At one point, Chad and I did manage to spot this little Canyon Tree Frog, right near the stream at the base of the mountain range. The evening road cruising was also poor for some reason, even though the conditions seemed awesome. We did manage to find this pretty little Sonoran Gopher Snake. More to come later. I am still working on pics and I don't want to blow and of the other herper's suprises. Edited by sauce95128 4/21/2010 1:33 AM

I paused my vid, at a perfect point where I'm holding it, stretched out. I took a rope, put everthing in the same positions, arms, hands, droop in the snake, curves in the tail, whatnot. I took a little off to be sure. Measured it. I did this multiple times and I kept coming up with....6' 6"!!! 78 inches!...So, safe to say 6 feet plus!

My primary snake lens is the Nikon 105mm VR Micro which a few other members here use as well. Thanks for looking. Edgar - I would say that Devlin got the least sleep with me in a close second. He was up 15-20 minutes before me everyday and running downstairs for coffee. We were certainly out herping before the others got out of bed. Here is how our sleep pattern went: Thursday night: 3.5 hours Friday night: 3.5 hours Saturday night: 5 hours (what a luxury) Sunday night: 3 hours That adds up to 15 total hours of sleep in AZ.

Me, John and his friend, Trevor, the non herper snake magnet, are flying in Wed. Not sure if Nat's driving down. If she does, she's a warrior...Alaska to Mexico? Crazy...
